Upcoming Events

Believe it or not, Interims come home next Friday! Wow! Be looking for these in your child's homework folder. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, please let me know. I am so proud of our class in that EVERY STUDENT showed progress on his/her PALS test!!! Way to go :)

February is approaching fast! We will have our Valentine's card exchange, along with a few holiday-related activities, on Friday, February 12th. I do have several boxes of Valentine's cards that have been donated, so please let me know if you need one! We will be making special Valentine bags in class, so there will not be a need to send in any "mailboxes."

Also on February 12th, the money for the Science Museum is due! Please send this as soon as you can, so we can account for everyone. Please let me know if this will be a problem. Every student will have the opportunity to go, regardless of whether they can pay or not. This is one thing our PTA firmly believes in and helps out families when needed. If this is the case for your family, please send in the permission form with a note attached, and we will see that your child is paid for. :)

Our field trip is on the 25th. This will be an all day event, with our class having to leave by 8:15 that morning. If possible, please have your child eat breakfast at home that morning. Also, don't forget the bagged lunch! As we get closer to the date, a reminder letter will be coming home.

Scholastic Book Orders

My apologies to parents who have been trying to order books online this weekend. I realized tonight that I did not put the information on scholastic.com. It is now up and ready for orders :) Thanks for your patience!

As a reminder, you can access online book orders through:
www.scholastic.com
login: youel
password: class

*I hope this helps to make it easier for you! Also, we still have orders that can go through the classroom if you'd prefer to pay by check. Thanks! :)

100th Day of School!

Our 100th day of school (barring any missed days between now and then) will be on Wednesday, January 20th. I will be sending home a note on Wednesday, asking for help with two projects we will be doing that day. Please be sure to check your child's folder and help out, if you can. I'm asking that all items be sent in by that Tuesday, the 19th, so that I can pick up anything missing that evening for the next day. :)

Be looking for two more things to come home soon. One is a reading incentive program I am heading up at Jouett this year. It's called "Wild About Reading." Essentially, students read for 6 hours for pleasure, turn in the Reading form, and earn a free ticket to Six Flags Theme park near Washington, D.C.! There will also be a website with information about how to receive discount tickets for the rest of the family, that I believe comes with the ticket. I would love for your child to participate since it would not take long for some of our readers to reach that 6 hours mark! Now, this is supposed to be "reading for pleasure", not for the reading log. So these would be days, such as Saturday and Sunday, when students read on their own. I will be sending home information letters and forms hopefully this week. All forms will be due by March 1st.

The second thing to come home, which will probably be at some point next week, will be our next project. This will focus on "Famous Americans," our next Social Studies unit. Students will choose a famous American to research and create a project about.

Thanks for all your help with your child's education! Be sure to check out our new "learning pages" on our class wiki (linked through our webpage). We have been exploring poetry through "Jabberwocky", seeing the past and present through a little house on our "Community Changes" page, and will be celebrating 100 on our "100 Days of School!!!!" page!
