It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas!

With the colder weather, snow days, and the approaching holidays, students are in full gear!  We've been doing a lot of seasonal writing to work with the extra energy, and students have had a lot of fun doing so!

We did a brief study on reindeer and discussed what we'd do if we had a reindeer as a pet.

Then, we read the classic Dr. Seuss story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  Students then discussed the Grinch and ways to make him smile!

We'll continue more activities this week with our studies and incorporate some of the holiday into our everyday units.  Don't forget this Thursday is Penguin Palooza!

Can You Believe It's Almost Thanksgiving?

Wow, this year has gone by fast!  I feel like just last week was the first part of November!

This week, students finished our Famous Americans study with a writing "craftivity" on which famous American they would love to have dinner with and talk to.

I wasn't able to get pictures of all the fabulous turkeys that came in this week, so be sure to look over the Thanksgiving weekend for that!

Our Veterans pictures will be going to the Louisa VFW to help brighten their walls and give thanks to the men and women who have served!

Don't forget!  Jamestown is coming THIS TUESDAY.  Please make sure you sent in the $1.25 with your student.  I'll be posting pics on the blog this week about it! :)

How Many Things Can You Cram in a Week?

Good question!

Monday, we celebrated Veteran's Day by reading a special book, and then getting a copy of a book that was created for 2nd grade students about veterans.  We also created special Veteran's Day thank you notes that we will be sending to the Louisa VFW!

Wednesday was our Field Trip to the Frontier Culture Museum.  Thank goodness the snow/cold weather held off.  It turned out to be a very nice day.  Check out some of our pictures below!

This coming week and next week, we will focus on turkeys, Thanksgiving, and of course, realizing everything we have to be thankful for!  Throw in some plural nouns, adjectives, and place value, and you have rounded out our week!  Please don't forget the "Turkey Projects" are due Wednesday, and that our Famous Americans test is THIS Tuesday!  Our next unit will be "Economics," which we'll finish after Thanksgiving break.

Enjoy the pics of our field trip - students had an awesome time and most said they'd love to go back! :)
