The End of October???

It's hard to believe that it's the end of October, already!

This week, I wanted to feature our "Fun Fridays" for Writing.  During the week, students learn about grammar and proper sentence structure.  They practice it, but its in isolation.  So, on Fridays, we started putting what we've learned together, along with a special treat or craft, and created stories!

This week, our "Fun Friday" focused on apples.  Each student got half an apple and used adjectives to describe the apple (at least 2!) using their senses.  It was a great practice on adjectives and was "out of the box," so to speak, since students had to USE them and not simply find them in a paragraph, sentence, or story!

Check it out below:

This week, our activities include the BMX bike show on Monday (because so many students in our school participated in the fundraiser, EVERYONE gets to go!).  On Wednesday, it's "Book Character Dress Up Day."  On Wednesday, we'll also have some special seasonal centers during Math.  We'll end the week by finishing up our unit in History on "Community Changes:  Past and Present."

Looking forward to seeing those great Native American projects coming in on Monday! :)

A Busy Week....

This week was a busy one!  Between school pictures, School Lunch Week, and our Anti-Bullying Campaign kickoff, we've been swamped!

This week, we finished our Native American Unit.  Don't forget that projects are due Tuesday, October 28!  We also had some garden time with Mrs. Jenny and are working on spooky grammar display outside our classroom!  So far, we have the noun pumpkin patch, on Friday we added our flying verb bats, and next week, we'll add some adjective leaves!

Coming up, we'll begin our unit on Community Changes for History, finish up our Geometry Unit in Math with a test on Wednesday, and begin Unit 3 on Place Value.  We'll also continue to use our adjectives in our writing.  Our focus in Reading is Nonfiction this nine weeks, and students will be learning about the conventions and studying various subjects!

Don't forget that October 31st is dress up as your favorite book character day!  I can't wait to see what everyone will be!  If you can, please send your child with the character's book!

What's Happening In Classroom 23?

Wow, the days are just flying by!  My apologies for not blogging last week!

We've been busy learning about Native Americans in class, as well as reviewing weather with "How to Make a Cloud" writing activity/craft.  Students are full steam ahead with our Geometry unit, and settled down into reading groups.  Other events have included "Read for the Record" where we listened to the story of "Otis" and learned about respect from the tractor, as well as our visiting meteorologist from Channel 29.  Coming up, we have our Anti-Bully Day on Friday, October 18, where everyone is encouraged to wear orange that day.  On Tuesday, look for the permission slip about our field trip on November 13 to the Frontier Culture Museum!

If you didn't sign up for parent conferences, it's not too late - please let me know a good time for you to meet!  Suggested times are on your child's form (with the exception of Monday).

Before we look at the photos of the week, please remember that our class is still in the running for Sonic to fund us two projects through "Limeades for Learning" (link to the side of the blog).  It's sooo easy - register your email and do a one time verification that you're real.  Then, type in keyword "Youel" (I'm the only one!) and vote!  You can vote once a day and there is no spam email, etc.  Also, you have a chance to earn a free cherry limeade from Sonic if enough people vote in October!  If you happen to GO to Sonic, please save your receipt!  There should be a code on there worth at least 2 votes!

Please vote!  Our class depends on you!
