100th Day of School!

Our 100th day of school (barring any missed days between now and then) will be on Wednesday, January 20th. I will be sending home a note on Wednesday, asking for help with two projects we will be doing that day. Please be sure to check your child's folder and help out, if you can. I'm asking that all items be sent in by that Tuesday, the 19th, so that I can pick up anything missing that evening for the next day. :)

Be looking for two more things to come home soon. One is a reading incentive program I am heading up at Jouett this year. It's called "Wild About Reading." Essentially, students read for 6 hours for pleasure, turn in the Reading form, and earn a free ticket to Six Flags Theme park near Washington, D.C.! There will also be a website with information about how to receive discount tickets for the rest of the family, that I believe comes with the ticket. I would love for your child to participate since it would not take long for some of our readers to reach that 6 hours mark! Now, this is supposed to be "reading for pleasure", not for the reading log. So these would be days, such as Saturday and Sunday, when students read on their own. I will be sending home information letters and forms hopefully this week. All forms will be due by March 1st.

The second thing to come home, which will probably be at some point next week, will be our next project. This will focus on "Famous Americans," our next Social Studies unit. Students will choose a famous American to research and create a project about.

Thanks for all your help with your child's education! Be sure to check out our new "learning pages" on our class wiki (linked through our webpage). We have been exploring poetry through "Jabberwocky", seeing the past and present through a little house on our "Community Changes" page, and will be celebrating 100 on our "100 Days of School!!!!" page!
