Grandparents Day and More!

My apologies for not posting last week....when I sat down to post all the wonderful pics of Grandparent's Day, I realized I had the wrong camera!  Of course it did not appear until later in the week when there was no time to blog! :)

We greeted our grandparents with a class "quilt" we had made of pictures showing our favorite activities to do with our parents and grandparents, along with a descriptive sentence.  Students had traced and made handprints, and some of the pictures show the grandparents tracing their hand as well for a little keepsake!  Our final activity was the kids showing off their math skills with some of the games we have learned (that are in the math games folder!) "Make 10" and "Tens Go Fish."

This week we started learning about weather in all its forms - snow, sleet, hail, and rain!  We learned a "Water Cycle" song and met our weather frog, who we help get dressed every day for the weather!  To finish up our matter unit, students got to make "ice cream," where we combined milk, sugar, and vanilla and added that bag to a bigger one filled with ice and "rock salt" (also known as "ice cream salt.").  Students had to shake hard, but they enjoyed eating their hard work after the liquid became a solid!

This week's activities include an assessment on our calendar skills and basic facts in math, more weather talk in science with an assessment at the end of the week, and creating a story about a bike in writing!

Please remind your child to keep reading!  We talked about how like a sport, we need to practice our reading and math skills to get better.  Playing a game in the math folder each week also helps that as well!

DON'T FORGET!  LIMEADES FOR LEARNING starts this Monday!  A form with our three projects is going home in your child's homework folder.  All you have to do is vote each day, using your email address.  See the link to the side for more information, OR use your Smartphone and scan the QR code on the letter home!

Have a great week! :)
